God complex
« on: April 24, 2009, 04:39:00 PM »
Look, I'm new to the lands, but before I do anything I read help files and ask questions.  I recently tried to establish contact with a patron I wished to serve by using the Pray command and Patron in his temple.  Prior to this I had also Dreamed of the Patron to learn what I could.  I was immedaitely told by his aide that my contact was presumptious and I should talk and interview with one of his order.  Fair enough.

The next time I logged on, however I received a message from another player characterizing my honest and humble attempts to contact the patron as 'harrassment' and I was 'disturbing' his lordship and if I continued I would receive his wraith.

Well, isnt this a lovely way to eduate someone!  Quite honesty it made me think "screw this bloody game!"  I'm here to have a bit of fun, not get slapped down for making a wrong turn.  I certainly am not interested in serving any patron along side this type of individual.

I think the gods need to be more explict regarding what they require to approach them and help file (22) needs to include information regarding this protocol.  I'm not in the lands to piss any one off, but instances like this may be examples why good people go away and unsubcribe.

All thoughts, curses, comments, complaints are welcome.

Some of the help files are out of date and need updating.  When I patroned Apollo, it was never from a prayer.  I sent him a msg as with any other player and he responded, after some time, not yet.  I waited a long time before contacting him again, and we communicated in tells.  He thought it over and said okay, patron me.

I don't know what the content of your 'prayers' were, but unless the content was genuinely harassing, I don't understand why the order member responded as they did.  The behavior of the order members may be an important clue about your choice.  Did you ever hear from the god?

No, I never heard directly from the God.  His Priestess did send me a tell letting me know my "Patroning" him was inapprorpiate and to seek out members of his order.  My prayer was a humble request to serve him and to know of his wishes.  This was never answered so that is when I went to his temple and used the Patron command.

If I were you, I would take some time figuring out what god does what, because Avalon is by far, a land where gods do NOT represent the realms they patron.

Just because you want to follow Light, Compassion, Chaos, Night, Fire, War, doesnt mean Apollo, Rhadamanthys, Mephisto, Loki, or Tyranis are the right choices.

The aboves are just examples and by no means do I mean them  ::)

In all honesty, it's a bit presumptous to think you can just approach a deity at any time, unless you're familiar with them, but Never when you're new to the land. In most cases, deities require that you spend some time in the land in order to gauge your character and worth. If you really want to be in a particular Order, do you homework, study their realm, and try to become noticed by what you do in the realm. A lot of times if you search out and find another Order member or the High Priest, and inform them you are interested in their realm and Patron, then they will take you in and educate you in what will be required to join, and what is expected of each member.

Don't get discouraged. Everyone plays a game to have fun, but some games brush close enough to reality that they upset people from time to time. However, bad times are as vital to any RP game as much as good times. You can't have one without the other. Just watch the assumptions and try to work out a character role.
You can run....but you'll just die tired.
