Population is ok, not great but playable. Conflict seems concentrated on an ever decreasing pool of players with almost no need for pw or ddw. The level of random slaughter is much lower than times gone by. The most aggressive cities are parrius and silverfalls and professions seem fairly well represented with lots of animists around.

Roleplaying is at an all time low even by avalon standards and its not unknown to hear discussion of the latest movie or tv show over the city channel.

People are as obsessed with seconds as ever so expect to deal with the usual nonsense if you create a new character.

Thank you for the reply, Emrin.  How are the mages doing?  That's where "Algernon" started, and I also played a mage on FA.  I like that profession very much although I've been curious about others.

RP was always intermittent.  Narissa seemed to be the master but many others had their moments, playing along.  I allowed myself the occasional OOC reference, but was kind of an RP dork, to the point I refused to use IMs to communicate with players while the game was in progress.  (This really annoyed people -- my apologies to them.)

Seconds can be abused, so I understand some of that concern.  I am a one-character-at-a-time guy myself but try not to exploit prior knowledge too much.  Might be better to start over with a whole new profession -- then it really would be all new.  (Plus, Legends has changed so much...)

I don't see many mages or enchanters around at the moment but wizards and warlocks seem to have a few more members.

I'm not talking about roleplaying in the conventional sense as practised (when it suited her) by Narissa and a few others. Avalon has never advocated that kind of IC/OOC separation (see HELP CONCEPT) so if you want to roleplay in that way you have to accept you're playing a different game to most other people.

What I'm talking about is playing a character to the extent that you don't spend your time in the land chatting about what you saw on TV last night. Despite the complaints from "fighters" about increased protection turning the land into a chat room, it's almost always a "fighter" polluting the game environment with this kind of crap.

I once heard someone on city chat berating a fellow citizen for attacking and killing someone who was blind and I was sitting there thinking to myself, why didn't they just put innersight up? Then of course I realised they meant the player was blind and not the character. These are the same people who do most of their interaction over msn or treat characters based on who their "first" is or whether they were friends in First Age.

The extent of OOC when I was around was a really big deterant for me. Although it wasn't unbearably heavy, as most people just revereted to using tells primarily for OOC, it's a bit of an annoyance to be talking about something IC and then someone blurts about this show they were watching last night.

I personally tried to distance myself from people that were determined to make the realm their personal RL discussion group, and would always act confused when they mentioned something OOC related in says. A few people caught on quick enough and would lighten up, others...not so quickly.

I've been thinking about coming back for a while not, but am undecided on it.  It's not nearly the fact of having to pay to play, that doesn't bother me all that much. But I'm concerned about the activity level, as I'm certainly not going to be inclined to pay to play if there's nothing going on and hardly anyone around.

I'm not very sure about recent events, last I was around, Narissa was still Guildmistress of the Thieves guild, and was just going dormant. Can't say I'm overly disappointed to hear Springdale isn't around anymore, just starting to wonder if they just renamed it.

I'd certainly welcome any news about Parrius and if Lord Proteus and Lord Clementius are still around, and about the activity of the Warrior's Guild. Such news would certainly bring me a step closer towards deciding if I'd like to return. Kresslack was my only character on Achaea, and I had one First Age some years ago, but haven't played in probably...five years or more maybe.

Take care.

Land population is pretty quiet gmt day time play.  In the evenings it seems to pick up somewhat. Active gods are Cornelius, Aethon, Thanatos, Proteus, Rhadam, Xanthe(unable to be around now, due to her sons death) and Genesis of course.  Guilds have now got additional skills, specialist skills, which has led to a bit of an unbalance in game, but fixes and tweaks are constant, and it seems to be settling down now again.  Silverfalls is run by a small group of people and they seem to be building up pretty decently.  I believe the new costing for av has been set at $7.50 per month.  There are alot of new skills to play around with, some new herbs and poisons too.   ;D

I thought there was a new God there "Rhadam" till I realised it was probably Rhadamanthys!
I was going to ask for a nice write up of the ordination too  :D

Avalon shouldn't be down. However, I have seen this happen when Javalon is used as the access point on FA. I am unsure, but I think all of FA may down too.

To log into FA, you'll need to use a client. I haven't tested FA Java, but heard it redirects to Legends.
Use Cmud/Zmud(Paid) or Mudlet (Free) or any other client you prefer.
Server Address: Firstage.net
Port: 23

Assuming you haven't already figured this out.

Thanks for the update. Haven't been able to check until now due to travel and work. Glad to see that Cornelius, Proteus and Xanthe are still around. Makes me consider coming back when I have the free time to do so, but right now don't have the time to make the return worthwhile. Hope Tukar's enjoying that village of his and doing something worthwhile with it.
