Disconnected
« on: October 29, 2008, 06:12:08 AM »
Not sure if it is happening to anyone else,  but once I log into Javalon,
I get booted off if :  1) I'm in the bb for more than 5 minutes
2) I'm deep in a good solid task like picking herbs, quarrying marble or fishing and someone sends me a tell.  3) I'm afk for more than 5 minutes.

Of course the fault could be my system, I don't know.  Any thoughts?

It might be the timeout feature?

Although triggers and stuff are working, if there is not interaction from you it might be booting you off. try timeout off and see if that works!

Wait, how are you using triggers with Javalon?

Zmud does something similar like that, for the bb or afk bits at least - it needs constant commands sent to the mud to keep the connection active. A tick timer is the easiest solution: Actions --> tick timer. Use ~ as the action (it sends a blank line) and disable display tick message. One minute tick works fine, unless you're on really crappy dialup, then bump it to like 30 or 45 seconds.

Ok, as a frequent user of JAvalon these days thanks to my computer going caput some time ago, here are my thoughts:

JAvalon does not have triggers.

JAvalon has no timeout feature. You can sit in the BB all day if you want as long as your internet connection isn't cut off by your computer going to sleep or something.

Now, JAvalon does suck when you're actually trying to do things. *Sometimes* it cuts out when you're using MAPS at panic speed to get someplace. This would go along with Yorik's claim of it dc-ing during automated tasks, as using maps is effectively an automated task.

If it disconnects when you aren't using it, I think that's just your internet connection, Yorik, as I sit on the bb for copious amounts of time myself with no problem.

Regardless, whenever there's a problem, you should tell Genesis about it and let him know what's going on. He's told me before that he's interested in all potential problems with JAvalon so that it runs smoothly for new people trying out the game. :)

Hope that helps some! :D

Right,  I am without a trigger in Javalon.

And yeah,  I would sit for hours in the bb while doing other things,  but lately it cuts me off.  It could be a minor flux in the connection and that sounds most likely.

Just hate burning through the iorthir.  Was hoping there was someway to pin the blame elsewhere instead of on my hero, my life, my god -- The Machine.

All praise the Machine!

Er.... Thanks for the help!

I am pretty sure that timeout is an ingame command. Help timeout should give you some info.
Or go check out the online avalon help: http://www.avalon-rpg.com/help/pages/timeout.html

Its a feature available to everybody, regardless of the client you use.
