If you are unable to hold a conversation, sway people with your charisma or rouse people with an oratory, you're really going to struggle in a text-based world.
One of the problems of Avalon has been the increasing discouragement from showing any kind of weakness, particularly for the young. And worse, castigating any that do and anyone who would teach them a lesson.
For example, how often have we seen youngsters encouraged to join in attacks on larger, immeasurably more powerful people from enemies cities? This is almost always during teams. All the time.
Then if that large, powerful person finds a moment to demonstrate the folly of the youngster in his attempt to take advantage of a weak moment, and demands an apology or a promise not to attack again. What do the youngsters fellow citizens and guildsmen say? "Never!" "He can't touch you", or "your items are easy to replace", "xp is meaningless and easy to replace", "rides are meaningless and easy to replace", etc.
And surprise, surprise, if the larger person then attacks or has any kind of unfriendly interaction with that younger fool, he is labelled a bully or whining to the gods occurs.
It is far better roleplay if a youngster chooses to involve himself with offensive action against someone clearly much more powerful than themselves, they use the very valuable opportunity to develop their negotiation skills and get theirself out of the mess, rather than be encouraged to give the two finger salute.
They should also bear in mind that they aren't showing weakness, they are showting strategic nouse. Fighting a battle you can't hope to win is rarely of any benefit. Far better to live to fight another day, etc.
Ultimately, don't get mad, get even. Grudges are one of life's little pleasures.
