Tree/Bearforms
« on: September 05, 2007, 05:17:52 AM »
If you're around the forests long enough, you'll be prone to run all the trees begin to look alike and the bears too.  Those of the Druid or Ranger set of abilities can transform themselves to appear as "An ancient tree" or as "an enormous black bear" which can lead to confusion if you know more than one.

For the younger set (who may not know), the gods have the ability to bestow special honours upon worthy members of the professions who stand out by granting them unique identities within the forest, solely for that individual.  This practice has since become slightly more common but the effect is the same. It also makes for interesting roleplay, both the honours itself and incorporating identities (and backgrounds) into a character. This seemed like something fun to add to the forums and if you know of anyone who qualifies, post please!!

Elmak, I know I have at least one contributant with you already.   ;)  Does anyone remember what Lilandrin looked like?  How about Nivea or Dhonuill?  Post for the benefit of all! Here's mine to start off with...

Look:
Rooted nearby is a rowan tree burgeoning with creamy-white flowers.
Ex maud (a graceful rowan tree):
The stately Summerisle rowan stands before you, plush and austere. Leaves flow from its branches as a monarch deigns to tip his crown, branches curl to embrace - but with reserve. Its facade of milky white flowers, its woody and emerald exterior, are all but a shadow of its character. From it comes a smell of earthy purity, so sweet yet bitter; it is the scent of aged wisdom. Yet its inevitable betrayal will come when lusty crimson berries sprout forth with the next twist of seasons. Harsh weather is its mentor and on its bark and oblongated leaves are the experience it teaches silently. Enigmatic and enduring, the rowan is renowned for its protective character amongst those who know its altruistic nature.

And this would be me:

A great armoured bear.

Clad in rust-coloured armour, a mighty bear of the northern mountains towers menacingly before you.

One of the legendary armoured bears of the far northern mountains towers above you with his imposing height, while his blazing red eyes consider you thoughtfully. His helm which is forged of rusty steel, is set upon the top of his head with the jaw removed for tearing and biting. The platemail, fabricated from the same material, is large and formed to fit his bulk, the symbol of the Hunter stamped in the centre.

An ancient greying bear.

This ancient greying bear towers before you, blood stained muzzle and face,
small malevolent black nose and an immensity or dirty matted fur covered with
scars telling tales of great battles. The bear's presence makes you feel
close to coldness, danger, brutal power, but a controlled by intelligence;
human intelligence. The eyes are the beacon for that intelligence. They are
swollen with a wan, melancholy expression that no mere beast could comprehend
or feel.

You know, I keep thinking that I'm going to be out felling trees one day and piss off the wrong person, mainly someone in tree-form that I mistook for a Real tree.

~ Lady Nivea, Gatherer of Acorns ~

A graceful magnolia tree.

This evergreen tree is awestrikingly beautiful. Graceful branches stretch to the ground and the heavens, providing a sheltered haven. It is cloaked in dense, dark green foliage. The boughs are adorned with enormous snow-white blossoms which emit a sweet, heavy fragrance to fill the air. A timid ivy hugs the lower trunk and covers the fallen petals strewn on the ground.

Watched? Pfft! I read those books long before they even thought about a movie!

an aromatic cedar tree (added March 2011)
The invigorating, fresh scent of cedar surrounds you like a cool breeze. The
main boughs of this ent (or shepherd of the forest) are raised in a perfectly
sentient pose and - insouciant of weather or season - delicate lines of
frost-blue crystals hang along many of the branches. These dangling
ice-crystals possess a bold sapphire hue and tinkle delightfully in answer to
each passing breeze. The tree notices your attentions and exudes 'warmth' as
it seems to bend the caress of its canopy in your direction, trusting and
appreciating your regard. Soft fragrances dance in the air about this sapient
tree, pollens and seeds cast up every now and then to seek their fortune on
the winds; to spread and sow a loving fertility and - dare you say - optimism
in the future. Two thirds of the way up the thick, gnarled trunk are two
points of piercing blue; like eyes looking out at you and your world with an
impossibly deep yet mirthful curiosity.
